Boats on the Sea

Studio of Sōtatsu 宗達派
Color painting formed from a pair of screens arranged horizontally side-by-side, each with six, narrow vertical panels, of green and brown landmasses on the right and left sides of the composition, emerging from a turbulent sea with waves depicted in blue and white. Three narrow boats, two on the right screen and one on the left, each have a single figure with an oar at one end. The upper half of the image is dominated by a gold background with irregular edges, resembling clouds.
