Mice on Rice-cake Flowers

Nagasawa Rosetsu 長沢芦雪
Long, narrow format horizontal color painting of five mice, four brown and one white, eating a white substance growing in round balls on a thin branch that extends horizontally from left to right across the center of the image, on a blank background. Several red blossoming buds on the branch at the lower left. Four of the mice are on the left side of the image, with the smallest brown mouse eating from an extremity of a branch on the far right. A thin, rectangular border of textile in two layers surrounds the image on all sides.
